Kia ora/Hola/Ciao!

I'm a mum of three children, ages 16 to 25.

I'm a Registered Nurse and a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)*.

I also hold a graduate diploma in Psychology and a Masters in Public Health,

and have completed extensive training in Women's Psychotherapy,

CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and ACT (Acceptance Commitment

Therapy). I have been supporting families in a variety of environments since

2006 as: A hospital obstetric nurse, a well-child nurse in the community, an educator (antenatal, breastfeeding, fourth trimester, PND, and Circle of Security classes), and in home visits and clinics in the community. For five years, I was the educator for PADA (Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Aotearoa). In this role, I conducted trainings and facilitated workshops for healthcare professionals on various topics such as perinatal depression and anxiety, traumatic births, perinatal OCD and pregnancy after loss.

I experienced mixed success with breastfeeding my three children, as well as Post Natal Depression. I am very passionate about supporting new families struggling with the adjustment to parenthood.

Originally from Mexico, I lived in California, Hawaii, and Italy before moving to NZ in 2011. I speak English, Spanish, Hebrew, and Italian. In my spare time, I love spending time with my children, biking, swimming, and dancing.

*IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) is an internationally recognized certification that requires rigorous training and periodic examinations.

Mary O'Keeffe (teaches when I'm away)

Mary has taught childbirth education classes since 2007, and loves working with excited new parents-to-be.  "It’s a joy and a privilege to be part of their parenting journey."

As a scientist Mary is a firm advocate for evidence-based research – research and data underpins her teaching and information.  She also strongly promotes informed choice and informed consent – informing parents of all their options so they can make their own choices as they see fit.

In her day to day life Mary has an adult daughter, and runs her own consultancy as an archaeologist.
